My son’s friend was diagnosed with lyme meningitis. They are always together and I was wondering do i need to get my sons treated? I didn’t know if this type of meningitis is contagious. I have been searching all over the web and can’t find an answer, please help.Christy Farster

Kathy Huddleson responds:

Due to the medical nature of your question regarding lyme meningitis, I would recommend that you speak to your son’s health care provider about whether or not medical treatment is necessary.

It sounds like you do know something about meningitis. Please check out the NMA website for more information about meningococcal disease, a type of bacterial meningitis–our 21 year old daughter died 5 1/2 years ago from this potentially deadly disease–as a parent I wasn’t informed about the disease or that there was a vaccine that could have protected our daughter. Now I work to help educate children, parents, and the medical profession about the signs and symptoms and the preventative measures available.
