I am trying to find out if there is any risk after my 11 year old daughter received a second meningococcal vaccination by mistake. We moved recently to new city and our shot records were not clear. First vaccine at age 10 and then second at age 11 years. What do you think? Pediatrician told me it was OK but I want to check other sources. Thanks.

Sue Burd responds:

I am glad to hear that your daughter has had the vaccine. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommendations do not address revaccination or boosters. They do recommend one vaccination with the meningococcal conjugate vaccine for all adolescents 11 through 18 years of age and college freshmen living in dormitories. I do not know the answer to your question, but you may wish to contact the CDC through their Web site. It doesn’t hurt to keep asking questions. I am sorry I could not be more helpful.
