Hi. I am a big believer in prevention, but my sister is not interested in having her 15 year-old vaccinated against meningitis. Can you help me find an argument that could persuade her? I don't want to seem too pushy, but definitely believe it's better to be safe than sorry.

My daughter-in-law called me this morning from the hospital. I was so surprised. You see, she just lost a baby after six weeks of pregnancy. After a couple of days she started with migraine headaches that just wouldn't go away. Her doctor said it was caused by stress. This morning she said the hospital says it's meningitis. Still trying to find out whether it's viral or bacterial. She is 26 years old. Should I be really, really worried?
What are the symptoms in babies who contract menengitis?
I run a home daycare and I just found out that one of my daycare childrens' mom is in the hospital with bacterial meningitis. I'm wondering about exposure to myself, as well as my family and other daycare children. Are we at risk? Should I close down temporarily?
My 13 month-old son recently developed a very high fever (104 degrees F). As a result, we took him to urgent care that same day. The PA (Physician's Assistant) said it was a viral related and there was not much to do about it; aside from keeping the fever down. Two days later, my son was still battling a high fever (101-104 degrees F). As a result, we took our son to our pediatrician's office. Unfortunately, our doctor was not available, so we ended up seeing a Nurse Practitioner (NP) in that same practice. The NP diagnosed my son with "Herpangina." The NP said tha fever typicially lasts for about 4-5 days and that this viral infection would eventually go away within 5 more days. The NP was correct in terms of the timing of the fever dissapearing. However, once the fever went away, my son immediately developed a rash and became extremely irritable. in addition, he's balance is a bit off and he now tends to fall down after taking a few steps. The imbalance really concerns us because he endured a total of 4-5 days of high fever. We have talked to a few friends and have done our own research about these symptoms. Something tells me that we should also consider "Roseola infantum" or even "meningitis." Again, what really seems to stand out is my son's inability to walk as good as he used to. Any advice?

I am trying to find out if there is any risk after my 11 year old daughter received a second meningococcal vaccination by mistake. We moved recently to new city and our shot records were not clear. First vaccine at age 10 and then second at age 11 years. What do you think? Pediatrician told me it was OK but I want to check other sources. Thanks.

I was diagnosed with meningococcal meningitis when I was 17, a little over 22 years ago. I am trying to find out what long term effects this disease has on those who survive. I have been going through various medical issues, particularly with my spine, and am curious if there is a connection. If someone can direct me to information about the long term effects of this disease, I would be most grateful. Thank you, Linda Moshier, Long Island, NY

Can bacterial meningitis be passed from the infected child to another child through a third party. If we were in touch with a two-year child who may have it, could we pass it on to our three year old granddaughter the next day who has a weak immune system due to Childhood Nephrotic Syndrome? We did not have close contact with the infected child at all.Thank you for getting back to me.
