Mother of McKenzie, Who Died of Meningococcal Disease

When Laurie Hartwig and her husband dropped their 18-year-old daughter McKenzie off for her freshman year at the University of South Dakota, they had no idea it would be the last time they would ever see their daughter alive. Sadly, McKenzie died only a few weeks later of meningococcal disease. Weeks after McKenzie died, Laurie learned immunization might have saved her life.
