Mother of Patrick, Who Died of Meningococcal Disease

In March 2000, Deb and Mike Kepferle received a call that their son, Patrick, a freshman at Towson University, had fallen ill and was being transported to the hospital. It wasn't until they arrived at the hospital that Deb and Mike learned their son was fighting a fast-moving and potentially deadly bacterial infection called meningococcal disease. Sadly, the disease took Patrick's life only 24 hours after the onset of his first symptom. Deb and Mike never imagined they could lose their son so quickly to a potentially vaccine-preventable disease.
